Pakistan’s fashion industry after years of continuous growth and evolvement is now eyeing the international markets. The two-day fashion event being held as part of Expo Pakistan 2013 concluded with a grand finale at Pearl Continental Hotel on Friday bearing testimony to the fact that industry is all set for rocket speed growth after carving a niche in the global market.

After success of the first day the second day was more promising as top designers showcased their creations.

The audience like the day one was comprised of foreign guests attending the Expo, representatives of large buying houses and foreign brands, fashionists, journalists and students of PIFD.

Fashion shows can sometimes be monotonous on the second day. Everyone was in for surprise as HSY used different techniques as choreographer of the show to ward of any monotonous movement. He used the lights, camera action technique to the fullest ensuring that the audience interest keeps high.

For example during the show there was one catwalk in which all the model showcasing a designer’s work came on the ramp together. No lights were on and no spot light was used. After two to three minutes when the models had gone back stage spotlight was used for one model and then the usual catwalk began. HSY was not the only one using ‘A little bit of drama technique’ some models especially Eridge used it superbly as always. But the show was remarkably executed by models (who carried themselves well) and HSY’s team. People loved the gimmicks and gave huge applause.

The 90 minute show without break in the session was a huge success.

Pakistan’s pride Maheen Khan was the first designer to showcase her creativity. She has brought great accolades to the country from different countries. Her dresses were testimony of her global appeal.

The trend setter has proved that in the changing face of fashion industry she is still way ahead with her beautiful dress designs. She has marvelously used local themes and fused them well with western trends to make the dresses appealing to global audience.

It was pleasure to watch Deepak Perwani’s collection inspired by Frieda Khalo. Keeping the image of that fabulous lady in mind he has used Karachi’s rich cultural heritage to make beautiful dresses. His art knows no bounds.

FnkAsia’s MERCHANTS OF SPICE collection also had the audience up on their seats in admiration. All the designers’ collection was highly appreciated. The show’s grand finale was none other than Shamaeel Qureshi’s presentation of her creations. She fuses art with designing and comes up with breathtaking clothes. The fashion event was first one in the season of autumn. A lot of events are expected in October but we will wait for the next showcasing of Pakistan fashion next year at TDAP show.

The organiser and producer of the event was Hum TV under the supervision of Saeed Tamimi (head of fashion at TDAP). Hair, make-up and styling was done by SABS. Production 021 took care of the backstage event management. The PR of the event was well handled by Tehmina Khalid of Take II.
