Fashion Tips Men Biography

Born and raised on a small farm outside of Windsor Ontario Canada, it has been quite a journey to developing a men’s style publication based in NYC and LA. I moved to NYC to attend Columbia University, where I was recruited to play basketball. After playing 4 years of Division 1 hoops and graduating with an Ivy League degree in Psychology, I spent a summer interning on Wall Street and a few months in the buying office at Saks Fifth Avenue before taking my title as Esquire magazine’s “Best Dressed Real Man in America” and running with it. In may of 2012 I graduated from the Menswear Design program at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, where my final design collection was selected among the top in the class and displayed in the college’s museum. Aside from managing TSB and related collaborations, I serve as a Senior Advisor for Michael Andrews Bespoke, a brand ambassador for Gillette, a guest writer for EnRoute magazine and a freelance consultant for a number of other menswear related businesses. When I’m not doing any of that, I’m shopping, traveling or getting buckets on the courts in the East Village or Venice Beach! I grew up on a ranch just outside of Houston Texas, spending my weekdays shoveling manure for my mom and weekends hunting with my dad. Needless to say, my first experience with “fashion” was heavily influenced by utility and workwear. After high school I left home to study photography at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Moving to “Music City” had a huge influence on me; my artwork changed, my clothes changed, my drinking habits changed (and by changed I mean they didn’t exist before Nashville). I fell in love with Americana and classic Southern style. After graduation I moved to New York City to work on a Masters in photography from Pratt University in Brooklyn. Shortly thereafter my friend Jenilee, who was interning for TSB at the time, introduced me to Dan and we hit it off. My style continues to improve (as does my title on the site), and even though I might wear a slim-fitting suit and refer to myself as an Art Director, at my roots I’m just a photographer who loves me some workwear. I spent the majority of my life in NYC, growing up with my older brother who was a big influence on me. As youngsters we played ball, listened to hip-hop, collected sneakers with matching outfits and stayed out of trouble (for the most part). At one point during my freshman year of college I looked at my closet and said “Damn, I hate my wardrobe”. That same day I searched google for “men’s style advice” and it was the best thing that could have happened to me. Stumbling upon [what was then] TheStyleBlogger.com, I became addicted to men’s style and my wardrobe gradually matured. My jeans got slimmer with each pair purchased, graphic tees became fitted polos, flashy sneakers were traded for loafers and lace-up, etc.A year and a half later I applied for a short-term photography position at TSB (since Alex was spending the summer back home in Texas). I didn’t get the job but I must have made an impression since the guys wanted me to stick around and be part of the team.I have the utmost respect for menswear and with that my style continues to evolve. I’m still true to my original influences of streetwear and hip-hop, which I feel help define my personal style, but I try to combine them with a more mature aesthetic.Other than working with the guys at TSB, I’m always down for a hoops game, some dope music and a good brew with even company. Originally from coastal Connecticut, I’ve always been attracted to the creative process of design, and have dabbled in everything from crocheting to architecture. My upbringing has definitely influenced my personal aesthetic, and while living in New York City has made me a little more contemporary, I am still a menswear classics man through and through. From a young age I learned the value of lasting quality and timelessness, which has not only shaped my taste in fashion but other interests as well, such as cooking, art and literature. Two years ago I moved to New York City to finish my economics degree and around that same time I applied for the  “Social Media Internship” at TSBmen. When I’m not with the guys from TSB, I love getting outside – skiing, hiking, fishing, golfing, running, you name it. I’m an exercise junkie and a foodie…it’s all about balance.
